"The details are not the details. They make the design."
Charles Eames

Since I have been back in the states, this has been my most comprehensive indoor/outdoor project, encompassing many interesting single aspects. Following, you will find a picture documentation of this project in the Highlands, delineating the different phases of my work. The original porch was built with the house in 1928 and had been redone twice - the last time, over 10 years ago. The job was demanding due to the various external and internal elements. Designing and creating a winter garden/tv room from a screened-in porch. Construction of exterior/interior walls with insulation, installation of 5 new windows, a new door and two round art-glass windows, new engineered wood floor. Construction and installation of a wooden built-in bookcase. The extensive planning included a preselection of possible window and door options, coordination of planning with electrician. As the house itself sported few, discrete adornments, to harmonize with these, I chose to incorporate design elements reminiscent of classical Greek architecture.

Round Windows

Not every carpenter would want to do it. Round windows are time-intensive and necessitate a high degree of accuracy. They might be wanted for various reasons. Here they serve to house and protect two round art-glass windows. My customer had two - one with a fleur-de-lis and another with a cardinal - made by a local artist. They look very nice and the carpenter is happy when they arrive in the dimensions they were ordered in, so they fit right in. Preparing round windows for the art-glass was a particular challenge, and I greatly enjoyed crafting them. The house owner reported that the round windows were met with great curiosity and praise.

Estimates that I make for jobs are, in fact, guaranteed, total-price offers for the work in question. As special service for you, I always separate the exact cost of the material and labor in my offers, too. That's why my offers are more time intensive, and for larger projects, I will take a fee for the offer. Also, for larger projects, there is a down payment for work of 25%. Both, the offer fee and the down payment will be calculated against the final payment. Payment for material minimum 14 days before the project start or the necessary time for ordering material.
